The Clusius lectures carry as theme the garden as tangent of culture and nature. In
these lectures the underlying questions concerning the history of science, art and
culture will be approached in a broad sense. These terrains showed a strong coherence
in Clusius’ time.
By organizing lectures the Clusius Foundation aims to increase the growing interest in
the historical and cultural aspects of the garden and provide them with a scientific
base. In doing so it strives for a multidisciplinary approach, in which historians,
art historians, linguists, architects, sociologists, biologists and horticultural
experts are involved. And moreover anyone who has an interest in gardens in general.
